Jeg har sakset denne fra Save natural Thyroid på Facebook:

I can third the gluten comments. I've lost a total of 87 lbs so far since my top weight in 2006 and have gone from growing out of a size 20 down to fitting perfectly into a size 1. I have only 5 more lbs to lose to get back to my original weight. I had almost doubled my weight in a year and a half before diagnosis and while on Synthroid. I lost the first 30 lbs when I got to my optimum dose of desiccated thyroid back in 2006, but could not lose any more weight. Then, I became gluten-free in August 2008, and have not stopped losing weight since then, for a total weight loss of 57 lbs in the last 14 months.

Current research suggest that as many as 80% of the US population have the genes which predisposes them to be sensitive or intolerant to gluten. All it takes is one extra bagel or slice of pizza to tip that balance into full blown sensitivity/intolerance, and you never know just how close you are to the borderline.

It is my belief that most of the people walking around complaining of Acid Reflux (GERD) and IBS are most likely sensitive to/intolerant of gluten.

There's a strong genetic connection between Celiac and Hashimoto's and Graves. But only 1 in 70 patients with Celiac Disease are ever diagnosed.

The blood tests for Celiac antibodies I had done in 2006 were negative. Biopsy by endoscopy was also negative in 2006, because they didn't take enough samples, and I didn't know better at the time. They only took 2 sample, but they needed 6-8 because Celiac is spotty in that part of the small intestine, and generally exists further down than the scope can reach with endoscopy. This happens far too often with people I know, but doesn't rule out Celiac Disease, yet, due to unknowledgeable doctors, those patients are left undiagnosed and suffering. I had chronic constipation from age 23 onwards, which then became chronic diarrhea when I was 39. I finally diagnosed myself with testing through Enterolab.com when I was 43. 20 years of wondering what was wrong and never getting a diagnosis! 20 years of missed parties, missing days from work, missed opportunities, and never knowing what was wrong. I was told I didn't have enough fiber in my diet, my life was too stressful, it was all in my head, and so much more. One doctor even suspected I did have Celiac in 2006, but told me I didn't when blood tests were negative.

Symptoms of Celiac do NOT have to be GI related at all. In fact, most Celiacs do NOT have severe GI symptoms, and the majority do not ever have diarrhea. I posted a list of the non-GI symptoms here:

Check that out and see if you can relate to any of those, and if you do relate, even remotely, consider an Enterolab test, or trying a 100% gluten-free diet. It may change your life and your weight in ways you never imagined possible! And it's not a difficult lifestyle once you understand it. There are more and more restaurants with gluten-free menus opening every day.

Beklager, orker ikke oversette. men den sier altså noe om at test av cøliaki er ikke så lett som leger alltid vil ha det til.
