Many NHS GP’s do not know of the natural thyroid hormones but some GP’s can remember prescribing Armour Thyroid prior to the 1980’s.
Many doctors have been told that Armour Thyroid was discontinued due to discrepancies in potency. This is not true. We have checked with the FDA, the American equivalent to the MHRA and there have been no recalls due to stability problems. The manufacturers simply decided not to bother to licence the product in the UK due to reduced sales as the synthetic thyroxine was brought into use and was and is much cheaper for the NHS to give to patients, bearing in mind that thyroid medicated patients get their prescriptions free. If your GP suggests stability problems to you, please ask him for the relevant study or research, as I will be very interested in seeing this. Please also give him the enclosed Armour Thyroid Research Pack, which will inform him of the stability of Armour Thyroid.
