Artificial sweeteners: Should we be afraid of Aspartame ? (1:55:46)

Event of the ALDE ADLE Seminar: Artificial sweeteners: Should we be afraid of Aspartame ?
Event date: Wednesday 16 March 2011 13:00 to 15:00 Location: BE BRUSSELS A5G-2. Studies
recently published have shown aspartame's potential negative impacts on pregnant women as
well as the carcinogenic potential of his sweetener. We propose to organise a public hearing to
address the potential health risks of the artificial sweetener aspartame bringing together
scientists, consumer's organisation, manufacturers and official from EFSA. The aim is to have
an informed debate on the issue of public interest.

Sweet Misery

This documentary discusses the dangers of Aspartame and MSG, the flavour enhancers that
are linked to the increase in brain cancer and brain disorders, and many other degenerative
diseases. The narrator, Cori Brackett recovered from MS (Multiple Sclerosis) following the removal
of aspartame from her diet, which she had been ingesting from drinking diet coke and 'natural
sweeteners'. She interviews several experts in the field, including Dr. Russell Blaylock, author of
the book Excitotoxins, and Arthur Evangelista, a former FDA Investigator, amongst others. There
are also countless testimonies by other people (including a doctor), who have reversed chronic
degenerative diseases just by stopping their consumption of these toxic food additives.

Dr. Russell Blaylock Nutrition & Behavior, Dangers of Aspartame and MSG

In this lecture, Dr. Russell Blaylock explains one of the most important connections between
nutrition and our health, how nutrition affects our behavior, and the detrimental effects of
excitotoxins Aspartame and MSG. Citing a series of important studies, Dr. Blaylock shows
that good nutrition can powerfully enhance our memory, mood, and behavior in a socially
desirable way.

Excitotoxins. The Taste thas Kills (1997)
Excitotoxins are substances added to foods and beverages that literally stimulates neurons
to death, causing brain damage of varying degrees. They can be found in such ingredients as
monosodium glutamate, aspartame (Nutrasweet®), cysteine, hydrolyzed protein, and aspartic
acid. Dr. Blaylock's book describes what excitotoxins are, where they are found, and how they
react in the body. Dr. Blaylock, a board-certified neurosurgeon, presents the latest research
findings to demonstrate how exposure to excitotoxins will damage nerve cells in the brain. The
use of aspartame, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, and monosodium glutamate in prepared foods
and beverages continues to increase on a yearly basis. Dr. Blaylock clearly demonstrates that
the neurotoxic potential of excitotoxins such as MSG and aspartame is so overwhelming that it
can no longer be ignored. The message contained in this book is of particular importance to
members of high-risk groups; the elderly, young children and those people at risk of or with a
family history of neurodegenerative diseases.
