Mission Statement

The Coalition for Diagnostic Rights brings together a diverse group of doctors, patients and professionals of all sorts in the effort to eradicate the practice of denial of care and the routine violation of fundamental patients’ rights when somatoform diagnoses are considered.

We serve as a nexus for concern about unethical management of diagnostic uncertainty, and we draw together doctors, patients, other healthcare providers, mental health practitioners, ethicists, other philosophers, patient advocacy organizations, healthcare administrators, medical organizations, families of patients struggling to cope, and anyone else concerned about the urgent need for a more patient-protective approach to somatoform diagnoses. We invite a wide range of concerns related to this issue, and a wide range of potential solutions.

The Coalition is a shifting collection of individuals and organizations in the US and around the world devoted to ending denial of care, and denial of rights, to those with medical conditions that pose diagnostic challenges. These issues often generate emotionally charged responses and, as a result, from time to time our personal lives are disrupted by unwanted communications. We warmly invite your communications, but to allow us to do what we do openly and publicly we ask that you not contact us except through the Coalition’s website and email address.
